Built for the diaspora

We focus on one corridor and do it exceptionally well. Designed by and for the Ghanaian community in the United States.

How it works

Four steps. About five minutes.

From signing up to confirming your transfer—designed to be as straightforward as possible.

1

Create your account

Sign up with your email and phone number. We'll send you a verification code to confirm.

2

Verify your identity

Quick identity check—a photo of your ID, a selfie, and a few details. Takes about three minutes.

3

Link your bank

Connect your U.S. bank account securely. We never see or store your bank login credentials.

4

Send to Ghana

Enter the amount and your recipient's bank details. Confirm and we'll handle the rest.

Estimated delivery: 1–3 business days

Bank deposit transfers typically arrive in 1–3 business days from the time your transfer is confirmed. You'll get notifications at each stage of the process.

Pricing

Honest pricing. Nothing hidden.

Our entire pricing is one line: a 7% service fee on the amount you send. The exchange rate carries a 2% spread on the mid-market rate. That's it. No subscription, no monthly fees, no hidden charges.

  • No surprise federal remittance tax
Your ACH-funded transfers qualify for the federal remittance tax exemption under IRC §4475(d)(1).

Honest limits

What ZapPay isn't.

We focus on doing one thing exceptionally well. Here's what we deliberately don't do—so there are no surprises.

×
No card or wire funding
Funding is ACH from your U.S. bank only.
×
No cash deposit accepted
No cash, money orders, or cashier's checks.
×
No mobile money
Bank deposit only. Direct to recipient's account.
×
No cash pickup
Recipients receive funds via direct deposit only.
×
No business accounts
Personal transfers between individuals only.
×
No stored balances
No wallet to fund. Each transfer is a single, complete transaction.

We've kept the product narrow on purpose. Fewer features, simpler architecture, fewer surprises—and a much higher bar for trust.

A note from the founders

Why we built ZapPay.

"

We started ZapPay because the experience of sending money home should not be the most stressful part of taking care of family.

We are building this for the people we know best—our parents, siblings, cousins, and community. The kind of people who deserve a service designed around their needs, not extracted from them. ZapPay is small on purpose: one corridor, one funding method, one promise that we'll do this right or not do it at all.

We are still pre-launch. The Virginia Money Transmitter License application is in progress, and we are working through every step required to operate as a fully licensed money services business. When ZapPay is ready, we want it to be ready properly. Until then, we'd be honored to have you on the waitlist.

FAQ

Common questions.

Don't see your question? Reach out at [email protected].

When does ZapPay launch? +
We're working through the regulatory licensing process now. We don't pre-announce specific launch dates because the timeline depends on factors outside our control. Join the waitlist and we'll notify you the moment we're live.
How fast will my money arrive? +
Bank deposit transfers to Ghana typically arrive in 1–3 business days from the time you confirm your transfer. You'll receive notifications at each stage—when your bank debit is processed, when funds are en route to Ghana, and when they're deposited into your recipient's account.
What does it cost to send money? +
Our pricing is straightforward: a 7% service fee on the amount you send. The exchange rate has a 2% spread on the mid-market rate. There are no other fees—no monthly charges, no membership, no surprise federal tax. For example, sending $100 costs you $107 total, and your recipient receives approximately 1,097 GHS at the displayed rate.
Why don't I see a federal remittance tax? +
Because ZapPay's transfers are funded only via ACH from your U.S. bank account, they qualify for the federal remittance excise tax exemption under IRC §4475(d)(1). You won't see a federal tax line on your transfer. This is one reason we keep our funding architecture simple: ACH only, never cash, cards, or money orders.
Is my money safe? +
Yes. Customer funds are held in a separate trust account at our partner bank, completely segregated from ZapPay's operating funds. We are licensed and bonded as a money services business, and use bank-grade encryption throughout. We're also registered with FinCEN as a Money Services Business.
Who can use ZapPay? +
ZapPay is available to U.S. residents who are 18 years or older, have a U.S. bank account, and are sending personal funds to family or friends in Ghana. Recipients in Ghana don't need a ZapPay account—they just need a bank account at one of our partner banks.
How do I pay for transfers? +
ZapPay funds transfers through ACH debit from your linked U.S. bank account. We don't accept debit cards, credit cards, wire transfers, cash, money orders, or cashier's checks. Your bank account is verified securely—we never see your bank login credentials.
What are the transfer limits? +
At launch, individual transfers must be between $30 and $500. The daily limit is $1,000 per customer, and the rolling 30-day limit is $3,000 per customer. We've kept limits modest at launch to operate within a clear, well-managed product. Limits may increase as our service matures.
What if I need to cancel a transfer? +
You can cancel any transfer for a full refund within 30 minutes of confirming, as long as the funds haven't yet been delivered to your recipient. After 30 minutes, cancellation may still be possible depending on where your transfer is in the process. We'll always do our best to assist.
